- Citizenship or accepted residence status: South African citizen, permanent resident, refugee, asylum seeker, special permit holder
- Person is living in South Africa: Yes
- Person’s age: at least 18
- Person’s age: no more than 59
- Person lives in a state institution: No
- Person refused a reasonable work or education opportunity: No
- Person receives another grant for themselves: No
- SASSA must confirm the income and asset check

Avoid preventable delays
Get the application ready.
- Use names and identity details exactly as Home Affairs records them.
- List every source of income and financial support honestly, even when it is irregular or comes from another bank account.
- Collect the programme's documents and complete the SASSA affidavit for that grant where requested.
- Keep the application receipt, reference number, submitted-document list and any SMS or email.
